The Humanoid Robot Industry Just Got Its First Public Price Tag

Unitree Robotics, the world's biggest humanoid robot maker, debuted on the Shanghai stock market on August 19 and surged 460% in a single day — a sign that the bet on physical AI is now very real.

On August 19, the first humanoid robot company to list on mainland China's stock market made its debut. Unitree Robotics, which makes robots that can walk, run and jump, priced its IPO at a $9 billion valuation. By the time trading closed, investors had pushed that to around $50 billion — a 460% single-day gain. More than 8,000 retail investors lined up to buy every available share.

This is not a company selling a dream. Unitree has delivered around 18,000 robots to real customers and made $235 million in revenue last year — growing 335% in a single year. Its profit margins are nearly 60%, which is exceptional for a hardware company. Nearly half its sales come from outside China, including about 18% from the United States.

A 460% first-day jump raises an obvious question: is this a bubble? The comparison to private competitors makes the case for the bulls. Figure AI, a US startup, is privately valued at $39 billion despite shipping far fewer robots. Unitree ended the day valued higher — profitable, and already at scale. The market seems to be saying that real robot makers are still undervalued even at these prices.

For anyone building or backing technology right now, this is a signal worth acting on. Physical AI has become a mainstream investment theme. The humanoid robot category now has public prices, audited accounts, and an army of investors. Whether your business touches manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, or any repetitive physical work, the next few years will bring serious competition from robots. Map where that changes your costs — before your competitors do.
