Most companies don't know how many AI agents they're running
AI agents have multiplied so fast inside big companies that most can't say how many they have running — and that is now a real problem for cost, safety, and compliance.

Ask a bank how many servers it runs and you will get a precise answer. Ask how many AI agents it is running and — as Dataiku's CEO put it this week — you get a shrug or a guess. Fewer than one in five organizations keep a complete, current list of their AI systems, according to IBM research. Dataiku this week launched a standalone product to fix exactly that.
The scale of the gap is striking. Gartner estimates that a typical Fortune 500 company will be running more than 150,000 AI agents by 2028, up from fewer than 15 in 2025. A survey by OutSystems found that 96% of enterprises already run AI agents, but only 12% have any centralized way to manage them. That is a 10,000-fold increase in three years with almost no management infrastructure to match it.
Dataiku's new product, Agent Management, connects to nine major enterprise platforms — including AWS Bedrock, Google Vertex, Salesforce Agentforce, and Microsoft Copilot Studio — and builds a single inventory across all of them. The key insight behind it: most agent monitoring only checks if an agent is running. Dataiku's product also measures whether the agent is actually doing its job — tracking business metrics like cost per task, quality, and value delivered alongside technical uptime.
If you are building or deploying AI agents, track them the same way you track any other production system: who owns each one, what data it can reach, what it costs, and whether the results are good. That discipline has always applied to servers and databases. It applies to agents too. Know what you have before you scale it. The tooling to do this systematically is now available — there is no longer a good excuse to run blind.
