Humanoid Robots Just Got a Public Price Tag

Unitree, a Chinese robotics company, just became the first mainland Chinese humanoid robot maker to go public — and its numbers show this is already a real, profitable business, not a science project.

A Chinese robotics company called Unitree just listed on the Shanghai stock exchange. Its main product is humanoid robots — machines that walk on two legs, use their hands, and respond to spoken instructions. This is not just another tech listing. Unitree is the first mainland Chinese humanoid robot IPO — meaning it now has a daily share price, public accounts, and shareholders to answer to. The technology has crossed a line.

The numbers say investors believe this is real. Unitree priced its shares at 150.8 yuan each, giving the company a $9 billion valuation. The institutional tranche was oversubscribed 2,600 times — investors offered to buy far more than was available. The company is already profitable: 591 million yuan in net profit last year on 1.7 billion yuan of revenue. Gross margins above 60% — the kind usually seen in software companies, not in makers of physical hardware.

Who else joined is as interesting as the listing itself. DeepSeek, the Chinese AI lab that surprised the world with its lean and efficient models, invested $20 million and signed a deal to jointly build AI specifically for Unitree's robots. Tencent also participated. DeepSeek's AI meets Unitree's robots: that is the same formula US companies like Tesla and Figure are racing toward — the best AI brain inside the best robot body. China just made it official.

For anyone running a business that depends on physical work — logistics, warehousing, manufacturing — the timeline is compressing fast. A company that barely existed a decade ago is now worth $9 billion and backed by some of China's biggest technology names. When markets put a public price on a technology, they are saying it is no longer a science project. Watch the quarterly numbers from here.
